Hey you two, Khayla and I have also embarked on this saving the planet endeavor. We've been recycling like crazy, and I've developed a system for our home. We go deliver our recyclables to the center on Saturdays. I didn't realize it was much to it (sorting plastics 1&2 together and 3-7 together!) It's not convenient, but it's definitely worth it. And believe it or not, once you start, it changes your whole mindset about things. Now, i'm irritated when I see trash on the streets. Every chance I get, I'm picking it up!

Quick notes:

The city of Detroit did not renew it's contract for the gi-normous incinerator. Google "Detroit incinerator" for more info.

Several community groups are working tirelessly to bring mass transit to Detroit. TRU and MOSES are two. Google these groups to find out more info.

More to come...

Nicole and I will be visiting a community garden in Mid-town Detroit. I'll post a blog (and pics) to let you know how it went.

Let's visit our local farmer's markets (Eastern Market, for example). It's good for the environment when we buy foods that are grown locally vs. foods that are shipped from abroad (travel=neverending reliance on oil, pollution, etc).

Hi Sorors! Great to have you on board!! I have begun to change my own mindset of living a life that is organic and enviornmentally free. What we put into our bodies and into the atmosphere concerns me as well as millions of many more individuals. While I am still living here in Detroit, Michigan I am considering starting a organic community garden. I have also just decided that I will embark on home composting. I am still in the process of researching my efforts but this will also be a family experience (Me, my son and significant other).

I started buying organic products in 2004 after my son was diagnosed with severe food allergies. Most of his allergies are gone however he still is allergic to milk and nuts. As for my home I buy energy effiecient products, enviormentally friendly household cleaning products and I try as much as possible to learn as much as possible about being enviornmentally freindly. However I am concerned with how to change the mindset of individuals within my own community. I am hoping with the garden I can start there.
